Contract Specifications & Margin Calculations

Understanding trade lot dimensions and institutional margin parameters.

Standard Contract Dimensions

Foreign exchange positions are measured in lots. Each lot tier represents a standard volume of the primary base currency.

Lot Classification Base Units Pip Value (EUR/USD)
Standard Lot (1.00) 100,000 Units $10.00 / pip
Mini Lot (0.10) 10,000 Units $1.00 / pip
Micro Lot (0.01) 1,000 Units $0.10 / pip
Nano Lot (0.001) 100 Units $0.01 / pip

Leverage & Margin Mechanics

Leverage allows you to control larger market positions by depositing a fraction of the total notional value as collateral.

Margin Formula: Required Margin = (Notional Volume) / (Leverage Ratio)

For example, opening 1 Standard Lot (100,000 EUR) on EUR/USD with 1:100 leverage requires only 1,000 EUR in margin collateral. With 1:500 leverage, required collateral drops to 200 EUR.

While leverage amplifies potential trading gains, it proportionally magnifies potential capital drawdown. Risk management stop-losses should always be established.
